The extension shows a QR code immediately when you click it, so your phone can join with a single scan. Either way, no account sign-up is required.

Yes. All traffic between your devices and WebDrop is encrypted with HTTPS/TLS. Files uploaded for transfer are stored on Cloudflare R2 object storage and are automatically and permanently deleted after 7 days — no manual action needed. Session text messages are stored in Cloudflare D1 and follow the same 7-day expiry policy. We do not read, analyze, sell, or share your content. Your session ID is the only access control — treat it like a temporary password and share it only with trusted devices.

WebDrop works on any device with a modern browser. This includes Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS (iPhone and iPad), and Android phones and tablets. On the computer side you can use the Chrome extension or open the web app directly in any Chromium-based browser, Firefox, or Safari. On mobile, simply open webdrop0.com in your phone's browser — no App Store or Google Play download is required. As long as both devices have an internet connection, they can transfer files regardless of network differences.

Each individual file can be up to 500 MB. You can send multiple files in the same session without any limit on the number of files per session. Files are uploaded to Cloudflare R2 and are available for download until the session expires after 7 days. The recipient does not need to be online at the moment of upload — they can download at any time while the session is still active. Common supported types include images (JPEG, PNG, HEIC), PDFs, Office documents, ZIP archives, videos, audio files, and more.

No, same-network access is not required. Unlike AirDrop or local-network tools like Snapdrop, WebDrop routes all data through Cloudflare's global edge network over the open internet. Your computer can be on home broadband while your phone is on mobile data, or the two devices can be in entirely different countries — WebDrop will work either way. This makes it ideal for remote work, travel, or any situation where you do not control the local network.
