Transfer Files from Android to Mac in a Browser
Choose files on Android, receive them on Mac, and troubleshoot cloud-backed photos, interrupted uploads, and missing downloads.

For a few photos or documents, a browser session avoids installing a desktop companion app. Both the Android phone and Mac need internet access. A cable or sync service is better suited to moving an entire photo library repeatedly.
Files pass through WebDrop storage, rather than directly over the local network. Allow for both the phone’s upload time and the Mac’s download time; being on the same Wi-Fi does not turn this into a local-only transfer.
1. Join and select a local file on Android
Create a session on the Mac and scan its QR code with Android, or open the session link. On the phone, use the file selection control and choose the document or image to upload.
Android may offer Photos, Files, recent items, and cloud providers in its picker. An item visible in a photo library is not necessarily stored on the phone. If it must first download from a cloud provider, that happens before WebDrop can finish uploading it. For diagnosis, choose a small file already stored locally.
2. Wait for the file entry, then save on Mac
Keep the Android browser in the foreground while sending. Battery saver, switching networks, or closing the tab can interrupt an upload. Wait until the file appears in the session rather than relying only on the progress percentage.
On the Mac, use the download button beside that file. Check the browser’s downloads list or chosen destination folder and open the saved copy. With several similar filenames, verify the file size and content before deciding which copy to keep.
Diagnose a failure at the right stage
If the picker cannot see a file, confirm it is available locally and accessible to the browser. A managed phone may prevent access to work documents; WebDrop cannot override that policy.
If a text message arrives but a local file stalls, test a smaller file without changing sessions first. A 413 error indicates a request size limit somewhere in the upload path. The app’s 500 MB check does not guarantee that the hosting layer accepts every file below it.
If the Mac shows the file but cannot save it, check available disk space and browser download permissions. Re-uploading will not resolve a blocked download destination. Re-send only failed items and keep the originals until all received copies open successfully.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I send a file back to Android?
Yes. Select it on the Mac in the same session, then download on Android. Use Chrome’s downloads list or the phone’s file manager to locate the received copy.
